What’s an Online Masters Degree in Nursing Worth?

April 29th, 2011

A successful graduate from an MSN-MBA program will enjoy many benefits of that education and these five advantages emphasize just that.

A master’s degree in nursing equips the graduate with the tools to understand the complexities involved in health care as well as the business end of the organization.

A master degree equips the holder with the education and credentials to qualify for a larger number of career opportunities in the health care industry.

There is a continuing demand for skilled and competent graduates who have in-depth knowledge about the roles of the national government and other private organizations have in health care, i.e. JCAHO, Medicare, insurance and regulating agencies.

A RN with a master in nursing will enjoy substantial increase in earnings, because of their enhanced skills and knowledge.

A leadership role is often the position that someone takes on when graduating with an online master’s degree in nursing, providing a vision and direction for the organization. A graduate with better education has the enhanced ability to anticipate and adapt to any obstacles that may be in their way during their professional career.

What makes earning an online masters degree in nursing a pursuit worth the financial investment for a student?

Schedule is Adaptable

Many students manage full time jobs with family responsibilities. Added to these responsibilities is the reality that most live far from school campuses. Therefore, the convenience of studying without having to attend classes in a traditional setting is a big plus.

More Time To Apply Towards Learning

The time it would have taken for the student to travel to and from the campus can now be added to the hours of learning.

Set Own Pace In Learning

Students earning a college or master’s degree on-line are especially motivated. Moreover, because they do not have to adjust their learning pace to that of the entire class — they are free to pursue their preferred subjects and decide how much to spend on these.

Quality interaction with classmates & teachers

24/7. Herein lies the strength of the web to connect fellow students, because with today’s busy life styles the possibility of meeting each other physically becomes a feat in logistics, and difficult to accomplish.
Programs like E-mail, chat messengers, and discussion boards, allow the student to stay in touch with their instructor, without having to wait for long hours or reset schedules to have this meeting.

Familiarity with Communications Technologies

A student’s ability to confidently handle an electronic environment is an added skill in the workplace.

Indeed, what’s an online masters nursing degree worth? In terms of earning ability over the course of one’s professional life, over $2.5 million (2002 – Commerce Department’s Census Bureau). Even better is the improved ability to contribute in a meaningful way to the health care industry and personal growth

Don’t Make My $10,000 Mistake – 4 Steps to Online Success

April 29th, 2011

When I was first coming online with my business advice for women entrepreneurs, I made a critical mistake. It wasn’t a cheap one, either! Instead of using my business capital to grow my business and improve my relationships with my clients, I spent the money on a web designer.

You don’t need to hire a web designer to make money on the web! I am living proof that even if you don’t have a background in technology, you can build your own web site to take your story and your products online. Instead of struggling with someone else and paying them a fortune to try and express your vision online, here are 4 steps to creating your own killer web site without the massive unnecessary expense of hiring a web designer.

First, Map it out. The first step in creating your web site is to map out what you want to include and where you want to include it. This doesn’t mean that you need to work out every little detail up front – just identify that you need your landing page, your about page, blog page, order page, etc.

Second, Write your content. Online, you hear people say over and over that “Content is king,” and they’re not kidding! Your customers are coming to you for interesting, informative, and creative content about your niche topic, and when you deliver they are ready to take the next step with you.

Third, Create a clear sales funnel. When people come to you with a need, it is so important that you make it easy for them to buy your products to meet their needs! With all of your content and design elements, you need to be including a road map and a call to action. In this way, your potential clients know exactly what to do and how to do it to get their hands and minds connected with what you sell.

Fourth, Use the tools of the web. When I was starting, there were not nearly all of the tools that exist on the web right now to support non-technical types creating their own web sites and man, am I jealous of the things at your disposal. Get out there and take advantage of programs like Capturely that let you build a landing page in minutes, or look for all the low cost web templates with the “What You See Is What You Get” or WYSIWYG editors that clear the technical hurdles for you.

When I was getting started, I spent a fortune on web design… and I shouldn’t have! Don’t make my mistake – you have the brain power and the web tools at your fingertips to create beautiful money making web sites without paying through the nose for web design.

Night Vision Glasses for All Budgets

April 28th, 2011

There was a time not that long ago when night vision glasses were only seen in movies and on television. In real life, the only people who had access to them were the military and some people in law enforcement, but even that was rare. Now, technology has changed all of that and people in regular, everyday life can buy night vision glasses online.

Why Would Civilians Need These?

Although you might not think that there is a use for night vision gear of any kind in the average civilian life, you would be wrong. Many people enjoy having them and actually need to have them for their own safety and protection. Generally speaking, there are those who use night vision for sport, such as in a paintball situation or even for hunting. Then, there are those who use them to ensure no one is standing outside their home, trespassing on their property, or endangering their business.

Not that long ago, night vision glasses were extremely expensive, but because they have continued to evolve with technology, you will find that you can find a pair for almost any budget. You don’t need to spend $1,000 for a pair. In fact, you could end up buying several pairs for that same amount. When you buy them online, you will find that you can even save more money.

How Do I Find the Right Pair for Me?

The first thing you will need to decide is what your budget is. This will likely determine the type of night vision glasses you can buy. There are currently four generations of night vision models available, and the older types (generation one and two) are far more affordable than the newer models. But with technology changing so quickly and the prices continuing to drop, you might be able to get more for your money than you could have just six months ago.

When you buy a pair of night vision glasses from generation one or two, you should expect to see in the dark up to about 100 yards and be able to make out the gender of a human or the type of animal. They aren’t clear enough to give you much more information than that, but some of the more expensive models may provide more detail or distance.

How Much Should I Spend?

The more you spend, the more you get when it comes to clarity and distance. The same can also be said for what amount of light you will need to use your glasses. Although they are called “night vision,” they still require some light (usually the light of the moon) to work. No night vision glasses work in zero light whatsoever – even the most expensive ones. For vision in pitch-black darkness, you will need glasses that rely on reading heat instead.

When you shop online, you will be able to choose between different types of set-ups, such as goggles that strap to your head, binoculars that record to digital media, and standard, compact binoculars, all of which should make you feel safer knowing that you can always see what is going on around you in the dark.

Affordable Vision Benefit Plans For Everyone

April 28th, 2011

The most wonderful things in this nature can be viewed only with our eyes. You can utilize them to a great extent in making your life meaningful. Eye contact can be used in bringing attention of the public and making an impression on them. So, it is important that you maintain proper eyes/eye sight by taking proper vision care.

It can be clearly understood from the studies that many people give importance to the physical health and ignore taking care of their eyes. But, it has been clearly understood that at least a single eye care examination annually would be helpful in maintaining a proper eye sight which would be of vital importance in evaluating and correcting any problems pertaining to the vision. This is more particular to adults because the probability of developing vision problems increases with an increase in the age. Most of us feel the necessity of visiting a doctor once in a while but wouldn’t go ahead because of the fear of the costs pertaining to vision care. The only option, people think of, that can provide relief from the vision care costs is insurance. Of late, the premiums of the insurance are also skyrocketing making it unaffordable to people.

It is at this point, the concept of discount plans has come into being. Generally, people now-a-days mistake insurance with discount plans. Actually, discount plans are not insurance policies; in fact they are much more than insurance policies. They provide huge discounts on the medical bills which help reduce the medical bills to a great extent. Discount plans are also called multipurpose plans as they provide a lot of other benefits such as discounts on lenses, prescription drugs, etc. which provide a sigh of relief to the people.

Diagnosing Learning Disabilities Including Vision and Language Based Learning Difficulties

April 28th, 2011

Diagnosing learning disabilities, be they language based learning difficulties or visually based learning difficulties, can be a difficult and difficult process, and it seems there are as a lot of differing opinions as there are different experts when it comes to diagnosing learning disabilities or dyslexia. Part of the question lies in the fact that learning difficulties are often not caused by one solitary issue but by a number of problems, and thus diagnosing learning disabilities becomes a multi-faceted, multi disciplined mission.

Diagnosing learning disabilities early in a child’s life can have a big bearing on their overall journey through school and even life. Sure, a lot of people with undiagnosed learning problems have done very satisfactorily in life, most famously men like Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison, but even wonderful artists like Sylvester Stallone, Cher, Tom Cruise, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Lindsay Wagner, Suzanne Somers, Henry Winkler, John Lennon, Beethoven, Mozart, Dustin Hoffman, Danny Glover and Steve McQueen all had a learning difficulties.

Diagnosing learning disabilities can be a easier procedure if you remember the parts, rather than the sum of the whole. Focusing on diagnosing particular areas of learning problems may hold the answer for a majority of struggling children, and this also tends to impart us scope to care for the learning difficulties. Thus for language based learning difficulties, we can follow the appropriate treatment using, for example, speech therapy, whereas for visually based learning problems we can use vision therapy to get better the child’s reading, writing and spelling performance.

One of the major problems with diagnosing learning disabilities is that very few of the practitioners who are diagnosing can give a tangible, practical way of helping the learning difficulties. Across the world, there seems to be an surplus of diagnosing of learning disabilities, but not a lot of valid treatment alternatives, so many parents of the children who experts are diagnosing with learning disabilities are simply given instruction like, “give them one instruction at a time,” or “sit them at the front of the class.” Yes, these suggestions may help, but language based learning trouble regularly require much greater intervention than a mere suggestion.

As a Behavioral Optometrist, I refer language based learning difficulties to those who treat them best, but I typically find myself diagnosing vision based learning problems. The great thing regarding this is that there is something we can really do to assist these children. Diagnosing learning disabilities is one thing, be they visual or language based learning difficulties, but giving effective treatment is frequently where things fall apart, and that is what has prompted me to pursue the ground-breaking method that I have.

Vision therapy can impart simple, targeted, effective exercises and activities that struggling children can do at home. Now for the first time this is obtainable worldwide using the internet, in a very similar way to what I can present my own patients in my own practice. These tried and real techniques go beyond simply diagnosing learning disabilities, they impart a fun and effective way of treating these conditions. The instructions are written in a straightforward language, so parents can easily recognize and apply these tips for their children with learning difficulties.

In the contemporary world, it is no longer adequate to just be diagnosing learning disabilities, we want to be treating them in an efficient and inexpensive way. That is what this radical program, Learning @ Lightspeed is all about!

Your Vision is Your Leadership Calling Card

April 27th, 2011

“Every time you don’t follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness.” – Shakti Gawain

Looking to develop your leadership skills minus a vision is choosing a difficult path. Maybe you want to make more money, so you look up job trends for jobs that pay the most. There is nothing wrong in wanting to improve your income. Nor is there anything wrong in playing the game of accumulating monies. These are goals to be sure. However, living a leadership life from logic without spirit is lackluster. What good does it do to enroll in something that leaves you empty emotionally? Goals aimed toward the success of a vision are powerful. They answer questions such as: What is the purpose of this goal? Does it take me closer or further away from my vision of being a leader in my career and life?

Leadership is motivated by a vision. Success is not happenstance. Behind leadership and success, there is a vision. A vision provides a compass. It includes your values and what you believe for yourself and others.

We are emotional human beings and make our decisions based on our beliefs and feelings; sometimes impulsively without foresight. It’s interesting that most people are willing to risk being reactive in their decisions, yet hesitate to take time out to sit down and write their vision based on their ideals. When you develop your vision from a proactive modality, it has real purpose. It comes from your inner guidance; your spirit self where your talents and leadership potential reside.

Here are ten benefits you get when you conduct your personal and professional life from your leadership vision:

You design your blueprint of your future self You feel empowered living your vision and not someone else’s Being proactive puts you in the driver’s seat You develop success habits and higher standards of excellence You are more attractive doing what you want You have more fun and are fun to be around When the going gets tough, your vision is the glue to hold you together Your vision is your calling to what’s next You are motivated and inspired when you get up in the morning New possibilities and miracles show up

Here are some ideas on creating your career/personal visions:

Make a list of your successes no matter how small or big. Include achievements in all areas of your life that are significant to you. You will be surprised how the leader in you has shown up. For example, you may be a good cook; when you were a child you had a flair for business operating a lemonade stand outside your home; you got a college degree; you are an organizer. Have fun with this list. Notice the value threads like creativity, discipline, service to others, integrity, perseverance, liked being challenged, team work. Often you have ideas and inspirations that drift away never to be acted upon. Have a method of jotting them down, whether it is on a computer, post-its, index cards, calling your voicemail to remind you, texting, or writing it in a journal. Example of idea: “During my walk today I thought of a new way to introduce my 7 Organic Leadership Tracks from Passion to Mastery to entrepreneurs. I see this program taking off. I am doing monthly speaking and workshops around this program. It is well received and I now have a waiting list of clients eager to explore their leadership potential.” Create a vision board. Look through magazines and on the Internet for pictures and words that represent the essence of what you want to do, be and have. Put these on a vision board. As you do, notice your feelings. Are you excited with expectancy in experiencing your visions? Can you FEEL the leadership juices within you begin to flow? Don’t worry about the how. First visualize. Your vision is your dream. Be diligent in looking at your vision board every day and evening. Write down affirmations that support your vision. It should be short, simple and meaningful for you. It should be in present tense using your name. Example: “I, Theresa-Maria now attract the highest and best people enrolled in my programs. They derive much benefit in developing their leadership potential and are pleased with their investment.” Visualize yourself on top of your mountain looking over the landscape. This is the bigger picture view. See what it is you want for your future. Down on the ground is where people who are living without a vision are looking up. Think about creating your day from your vision. Reaching goals to get something done for the sake of getting it done is more like living someone else’s vision. Your vision is a bigger picture.
Questions Hold the Answers:

What is the difference between goals and vision? Whose vision are you living? What vision is on your radar that lights your fire? Why are you procrastinating? What will it take for YOU to step into your leadership role?
Remember: Anything is Possible!

Vision Insurance Plan – How To Choose Eye Insurance Plans

April 27th, 2011

If you are among the estimated 50% of American who wear prescription contact lenses or eye glasses, a vision insurance plan can help you with the costs. A good vision plan can help you pay for your eye exam, contacts and glasses. Some employers offer a benefit package or discount plan to their employees, but you can also find one and pay for it yourself. In the long run, it can be well worth the cost.

What is an Eye Insurance Plan?

An eye insurance plan is not like regular health insurance. It is a wellness benefit that either provides a discounted rate for vision services such as eye exams, contacts and glasses or it helps offset the costs of these services. You can get vision insurance in one of two different types:

Vision Benefits Package Vision Discount Plan

A vision benefits package is much like insurance coverage in that is covers vision services. Sometimes you may be required to pay a co-payment at the time of the service or purchase of your contacts or glasses. Your benefits package pays the balance.

A vision discount plan is different from a vision benefits package in that you pay for the full services, but it is at a lower, discounted rate that has been agreed upon by the network provider. Through a discount plan, you are given a list of network providers who have agreed to charge the discounted prices per the plan. Often, there are also specific eye care services that are included in the plan so review prospective plans to make sure that the one you choose meets your needs.

Benefits of a Vision Insurance Plan

Eye insurance plans can be very beneficial, particularly if you have vision problems. You can save money on vision services and even eye glasses and contacts. An eye insurance plan can offset the sometimes substantial costs of vision care. Eye glasses alone can cost more than $200, but with a vision plan you can cut that cost by 50% or more.

You can get individual plans or plans that cover the entire family. They can be particularly helpful in saving money if you cover your children as they can sometimes go through several pair of eye glasses in a year.

Choosing the Right Vision Plan

If you think that a vision insurance company could have some benefits to offer, it is important that you find the right plan for your needs. Carefully review the benefits that are offered, what is covered, how often you can get an eye exam and how many pair of eye glasses or contact lenses you can get within a year or a six month period.

You can conduct an online search for vision insurance plans or even find a site that allows you to compare different companies by their benefits. You also want to make sure that you vision plan falls within your budget. It does you no good and you won’t save much if you go broke paying for the plan.

Create a Vision For Your Customer Service Training

April 26th, 2011

During a cold winter season, smart organizations get busy preparing for spring. One way to prepare is to create (or confirm) a clear and motivating vision of what you want to become. Back this vision up with customer service training and other measures and you can transform your business for the better. Your engaging service vision is one of the “12 Building Blocks for a Superior Service Culture” we teach at UP Your Service! College. This vision can serve as a guiding light for customer service training and to focus your efforts now and in the future.

1. Why do I need an engaging service vision to assist with customer service training?

An engaging service vision is fundamental. It gives people a sense of purpose, value and meaning. It provides a platform on which to build customer service training programs. An engaging service vision is inspiring. It arouses feelings of ambition, enthusiasm and commitment that lasts well beyond customer service training.

An engaging service vision gives direction. It provides an unmistakable idea of what is sought, and what is not, delivering valuable customer service training in the process. Many organizations have some statement of commitment to service. And most of these statements fall flat and do nothing to bolster customer service training.

An engaging service vision captivates attention. It is distinctive, motivating and clear. It is unique, and powerful, and yours. Customers should hear your vision and say, Yes! That is who you are. Staff members should read your vision and say, Yes! That is who we want to be.

2. Why should my service vision be different from others?

How do you want to be known? Why are you different from the competition? What makes you stand out from the crowd? Promising “excellent service” is no longer enough to interest customers or staff. Excellence sounds good, but you intend to be excellent at what? A vision guides your actions, customer service training and can even mold your future.

Discover the style of service your customers value most, then craft an engaging service vision to address and fulfill their needs. For example, excellent service in a hospital should be warm and caring, but that’s not what you want at a computer store or car wash. You need a unique vision to guide customer service training for your distinct business.

Some restaurants are known to be elegant and expensive, but that’s not what most customers want when the whole family goes out for dinner. A leading Roads and Transport Authority promises “Smooth and Safe Transportation for All.” Think smooth roads and railways, but also smooth licensing procedures. Think safe travel, but also safe handling of your personal details and data. The Raffles Hotel has a mission statement that includes this vision: “…delighting patrons with many memorable experiences.” People go to Raffles for good times and great memories, and Raffles staff members are delighted to make them happen. The vision backs up customer service training for the unique environment.

Wipro, a world class IT services provider from India, who caters to both domestic and international markets, promises to be the “Proactive Value Adding Service Partner” of choice. Their customers get new ideas from a company they can partner with for the future, not just a low cost vendor who only meets minimum specifications. This vision guides customer service training and inspire staff to perform. Singapore Airlines has a tag line that sets an extraordinary standard: “Service even other airlines talk about.” Annual service awards praise those who go beyond the call of duty to make this tag line real. Customer service training programs back up the vision and help reinforce it. Xerox Emirates promises to be “Much Better than Expected.” They are always coming up with new ways to surprise their customers and excite their staff.

The Japanese have twenty different words for “quality,” each with a different meaning: craftsmanship, design, durability, efficient use of materials, packaging, power consumption, presentation and more. Your customers have as many different words and meanings for “excellent customer service”. Which ones are right for you?

3. What guidelines should I follow when writing an engaging service vision?

Create a mantra to motivate your team and incorporate it into everything from daily work life to customer service training. Your engaging service vision must be easy to remember and act upon, even in a crisis. Mantra means “a tool for thinking”. Make sure yours really works and incorporate it into your customer service training.

Align to the core values of your brand. The service vision of “UP Your Service! College” is: “A world where people are educated and inspired to excel in service, to customers and to one another.” This is consistent with our core values of Personal Responsibility, Continuous Improvement and Abundant Generosity (among others). Does your service vision match and magnify your values?

Align to your customers’ values. A budget airline says “We make flying fun!” Their customers want safe and inexpensive flights from point A to B. But they value an experience that doesn’t make air travel a chore, even on a low cost airline. By sharing jokes with passengers, being playful with each other and even singing songs, crew members add value for customers without raising costs. They make their own work lives more enjoyable, too.

Be clearly understood throughout the organization. An engaging service vision must make sense for those in the front office and the back office and at every level from top to bottom. Use clear and practical language, not theoretical and intellectual prose. Be sure to reinforce the organization’s vision through customer service training.

Easily translate into action. When you hear an engaging service vision, you know what it means and you can figure out what to do. If someone reads your vision and asks “What does that mean?”, then keep working. When they say “I get it. Let’s do it!”, then your vision is already in action.

Keep your vision up front. Put it on the wall and website. Put it in the wallet of every employee. Print it on your stationary. Pin it on your chest. Record it on your voice mail. Store it on your screen saver. Bring it up in every message, meeting and conversation. Use it in your customer service training.

Finally, make your vision a challenge. Meeting expectations and complying with specifications will not turn your people on. You need bolder language to drive them UP and onwards. Your vision should challenge and offer a lesson in customer service training on its own.

A teacher was told that a few of her students had exceptionally high intelligence. Naturally she expected them to excel. Although their IQ was in fact similar to other students, those few performed much better. You are the teacher of your team and the principal of your future. What service performance do you want? What expectations do you require?

Make your service vision a challenge your team will deliver. Include your vision in your customer service training to help send the message home.

How to Create a Vision Board That’s Dynamic

April 26th, 2011

Have you ever made a vision board? When we were younger many of us made collages that expressed our dreams, only to have them grow stale. We put them away in the closet and never looked at them again.

Vision boards received a resurgence in popularity after the widespread promotion of the DVD The Secret in 2006. However, the style of board demonstrated in that movie is still like a collage in that it is static. When you want to update it you’ll need to start over and create a new one.

Imagine instead having a vision collage that stays fresh and inspiring whenever you look at it – because it changes over time, even minute to minute.

There are two kinds of dynamic vision boards, each with their own advantages and disadvantages: physical board that you post on your wall, and onscreen vision board used as a screensaver, wallpaper, slideshow, movie and more.

Physical Vision Boards

There are a few advantages to using a physical vision board. It can be as large as you like, and there is no limit to the variety of objects you can place on it, just like a traditional collage. Individuals who love to work with their hands in three-dimensional space are likely to prefer this method.

The first step is to collect all of the ideas, images and pieces of the puzzle that contribute to your dream. Historically magazines were the best source for photos, and now online search is available with a virtually unlimited supply of images. (Hint: try the “image” function of Google if you haven’t yet.) You’ll also want to pull out your business card collection, and other special items such as favorite quotes and inspiring articles.

Suppose you want to become a financial counselor to use your analytic skills and help others realize their lifetime goals. You want to double your income and buy a vacation home on a lake.

In this example, imagine constructing a vision board with a picture of a serene lake and birds flying overhead. A snapshot of your mentor would be there, and several dollar signs could be sprinkled throughout. You’d arrange business cards of your supportive colleagues artfully, along with inspirational phrases on sticky notes — “Conscious investing” — “Women in transition” — “Empowering my clients” — “$500K growing in the bank”. A brochure for a training course and an article about financial trends hang from pins in the corners.

The most important things about your vision board is that it be kept fresh and visible. Put it where you’ll see it every day in order to keep your subconscious inspired. As soon as you notice that it’s no longer catching your eye, it’s time to sit down and update it.

When you work with your vision board, first look to see which elements on it feel stale. Remove them to make room for something new. If all of the ingredients still carry meaning for you, then simply change their physical placement on the board. Then decide what aspects call out to be added, to bring your latest ideas to the mix.

The more senses you bring to your vision, the more you become the instrument that knows immediately when you are on course. Distractions become easier to notice when you compare your life to your living vision board. Foster that relationship, and a direct path to your dream will be clear!

Onscreen Vision Boards

A new exciting trend is the emergence of software vision board tools that produce a screensaver, desktop wallpaper, slideshow, movie and more. The obvious advantage of this approach is that you will see your vision board all day long as you work, without any extra effort. Individuals who spend a lot of time online are likely to prefer this method.

The simplest onscreen vision boards allow you to arrange images and text into a rectangular picture frame. Your creation can be shared with friends, posted in an online profile, or printed out for hanging. Many of those are inexpensive or available as shareware.

However, for a few dollars more you can start creating dynamic vision boards that are videos with a soundtrack, which will have the most powerful impact on your subconscious. You assemble a video from a collection of evocative images, inspiring words, positive statements, sound files, and background textures.

When you are done, the movie can be displayed as a screensaver, wallpaper, or exported for other uses such as sharing with your friends or displaying on an iPhone or digital photo frame. Printed posters are also an option.

The most powerful visioning processes are ones that engage all the senses and are used on a regular basis.
