The Cheakamus River Story

The Cheakamus River is a tributary to the Fraser River. It is, or at least was, a sacred spawning ground for Salmon. The North Vancouver school district owns an Outdoor School on the Cheakamus River called Paradise Valley where elementary school students study the Salmon. My father was an elementary school principle in the North Vancouver school district.

They recently received funding to build the North Shore Credit Union Environmental Learning Centre there. Only now after the CN derailment dumped all that toxic chemicals directly into that sacred spawning ground, instead of studying the salmon, the kids can now study the effects of Corporate greed first hand.

Ever heard of Brackendale? That is the Bald Eagle capital of North America. The eagles migrate there each winter to feed on the salmon after they have spawned in the Cheakamus river. This is the circle of life. Bankers like Moya Greene need to open their eyes and realize that the public isn't stupid and that their concerns are valid. The obsession to make a profit at all costs is just plain wrong.
