To Darren Entwistle:

I just want to congratulate you on effectively bringing the Telecommunications Workers' Union to it's knees and boosting the corporation's powers to incredible new heights that we have not seen for decades. All this through your ability to negotiate a new collective agreement strictly on your terms through blackmail, threats, and deceit.

Isn't it amazing how things can be accomplished when billion dollar companies have ongoing lobbyists in Ottawa to keep the likes of labour minister Joe Fontana and other politicians seeing their way clearly along the "right" path and the predominant newspapers choose to print only the news that's fit to print while the advertising dollars roll in.

Of course, the influence has not gone unnoticed on the part of the police responding to picket line behaviour and the federal courts ability to get all the "right" issues dealt with and upheld efficiently and expediently. The TWU did have it's share of victories but thank goodness for the appeal process that make them hollow victories indeed.

My concern might be the price that is to be paid for the "union busting" of a once proud and competent workforce. This victory will have the repercussions of demoralizing a great many in the workforce and leaving many uninspired with a great sense of betrayal and bitterness. You know what they say about absolute power. Well, perhaps if this absolute power is kept in check by the company that is able to wield it, (as the union will be almost "in name only") then possibly over time the company can again be, someday, a place where people will be able to proudly say "I work for Telus".
