Peter MacKay is in hot water

After a Liberal MP asked how the new clean-air rules would affect MacKay's dog, he pointed to Stronach's empty chair and responded: "You already have her."  "Mr. Speaker, this is clearly shameful and the minister owes an apology to this House," said Liberal MP Mark Holland. "It is a shameful display that he absolutely must apologize for." Go Peter McKay! Good one!

OK how about this: "I'm sorry BS is a female dog."

MP should refrain from living like a soap-opera queen

Stronach demands an apology? What a farce! Claims Peter McKay's comments are against women? What a farce! David Emerson isn't a woman and we mock him for saying one thing and doing another just like Belinda. Only his long list of sexual promiscuity isn't as well documented as Belinda's. Me thinks the problem isn't that Belinda is a woman. Me thinks it's because she is sexually promiscuous for personal gain. What do they call that again?

How about Peter McKay apolagize when Stronach

apolagizes to Leanne Domi

All I can hear is a rat pissin on cotton

It's time to restore decorum in Parliament: MPs

"She has called for a code of conduct or a sexual harassment policy for MPs."

Can you believe that? Parliament is the only place on earth you can get kicked out of for telling the truth. If you call a liar a liar, you get kicked out because that accusation, even if it is true, is unparliamentary. FYI calling a slut a slut is not sexual harassment! Maybe we should be more worried about the code of conduct outside of the house instead of banning the truth from being spoken inside the house! Freaks.

Supply and Demand: Bell turns into an Income Trust

This move is in response to TELUS' decision to create an income trust to create massive savings on corporate tax. Will privatizing Canada Post see more taxes and dividends go to the government? No. Will the governement have to raise taxes to make up for the drop in revenue? Maybe. Will privatizing Canada Post reduce customer costs and maintain or improve serves to smaller communities? No. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. See page 7 Metro Vancouver

Sounds like the bargaining unit's business is certainly going to Purolator. Canada Post used to be subtle in it's privatization attempts. Not any more. Now it is bold and blatant. Do you really think that privatizing Canada Post will save or improve postal services, especially to smaller communities? Do you really think that privatizing Canada Post will cap or save money on postage rates? Do you really think eliminating public accountability will reduce scandals and CEO salaries? Not likely. Another David Emerson Scandal

libranos.png (41987 bytes)

Volpe to respond to controversy on Monday

Liberal leadership candidate Joe Volpe will respond Monday to allegations his team improperly signed up some new Liberal Party members in Quebec, The Canadian Press is reporting. Joe Volpe does the Gagliano. Remember Gagliano's ties to the mob?

Remember the sponsorship scandal?

Paul Martin was the Liberal's finance minister at the time but they blamed Chretien and Gagliano so Paul Martin could become Prime minister. Chretien's response was "Sponsorship is Good!" Martin referred the Gomery report to the RCMP for possible criminal investigations and ordered the Liberal Party to repay $1.14 million to the public purse. Well, what happened? Did the public get the money back? Wasn't $1.14 million a small token of the money involved? What about the money Canada Post lost though Andre Ouellette? You remember Andre, former CEO of Canada Post. He used to be a Liberal Cabinet minister.

CN and the Sponsorship Scandal

Interesting to note CN Rail's involvement in the sponsorship scandal and a key player there, Jean Pelletier. Pelletier also came under fire for allegedly influencing where sponsorship funds would be channeled from his position within Chretien's PMO. Myriam Bédard publicly disclosed that she had been forced to resign from her marketing department job at Via Rail in 2002 shortly after raising concerns about the company's dealings with advertiser Groupaction. This led to the firings a few days later of Via Rail chairperson Jean Pelletier for sluffing her allegations off as a single mother who deserved pity.

Tellier was the president and chief executive of Canadian National Railway Co., preparing to privatize the federal Crown corporation when he met another Liberal, Transport Canada's senior bureaucrat on the file who oversaw the proceedings. She worked closely with him nine years later in Bombardier, which was unsuccessful.

bbd_b4yr.jpg (43166 bytes)

Two interesting individuals and companies named in the sponsorship scandal are Andre Ouellette with Canada Post and Paul Tellier with CN Rail. Both individuals were Liberals. A third key presents itself from the shadows, Transport Canada's senior bureaucrat on the file who oversaw the privatization of CN, yet another Liberal. Only now she slips over to CEO of Canada Post to take over for Andre Ouellette after working closely with Paul Tellier at Bombardier. I won't name names because I'm still under a gag order. (for now) Nevertheless, let's watch and see what happens because history clearly repeats itself until we learn from it. Perhaps she'll seize the opportunity to cross over like David Emerson.

After all, despite record volumes and despite the fact that Canada Post is making record profits and paying record tax and dividends, a banker from Bombardier is going to restructure the entire organization because she knows the business better than those who have been in the field for years and she anticipates that at some time in the future Canada Post *might* lose money unless it changes tracks. Brace yourself for another derailment! If it's not broken, don't fix it! How is not picking up mail on the weekends going to increase revenue anyways? Since Canada Post is service based industry, won't reducing the products and services reduce the overall revenue and profits? Please advise.

CN Derailments

Members of the public have argued that the reason for all the CN train derailments is because of longer trains and reduced brake maintenance. This is the result of privatization and putting profits ahead of safety and public accountability. Longer trains and reduced brake maintenance saves money. Great ideas coming from bankers who are new to the industry and despise public accountability.

CN Rail has record of poor maintenance, NDP claims [Video Clip]

NDP Transportation critic, David Chudnovsky, claims a safety audit on CN last year shows CN Rail didn't adequately maintain a locomotive that derailed near Lillooet, killing two workers. Chudnovsky said the document shows that on June 15, 2006, two weeks before the accident, the locomotive was almost two months overdue for service and had no brake shoes left. "What happened to that engine between June the 15th and June 29th?" he asked. "And second, how many other engines, pieces of equipment, owned by CN are 59 days late in doing maintenance?"

CN spokesman claims the brakes wear repaired June 16 2006. The solution is simply. Let the public see the safety audit!

BC Rail deaths highlight failures of privatization

“Faulkner and other employees have maintained, ever since BC Rail was sold to CN, that the new owner needed to listen to employees to find out how best to operate the line. However, CN quickly dismissed many of those employees and changed operating patterns.” Sound Familiar?

Question: What happens when you put a banker in charge of a railway?

Answer: Toxic derailments with no public accountability.

Wake Me Up When September Ends

The Latest and Greatest on Bruce Almighty

Bruce Bell goes to the CAW Convention after being fired again and plots the secret CAW merger with his buddy Buzz Hargrove in direct violation of the TWU Executive Motion. Bruce Bell is Unbelievable!

Remember when we all marched on the Labour Minister's Office?

That was on November 7, 2005. Well on September 15, 2005 Bruce Bell turned down Fontana's offer for a Special Mediator! That was the month BEFORE the first ratification vote. Why? Because he already made the devils deal with Buzz  Hargrove. He met Darren alone with Buzz Hargove September 24, 2005. Then he crammed the vote on the devil's deal in October 2005. When that vote failed he revoted it by way of mail order ballot filled with replacement workers.

Favorite Quote:

If you want a merger you'll have to let the members vote on it.

"Not if we're broke first." Bruce Bell Before the lockout.

Where does it say in the constitution that you don't have to let the members vote on a merger if you are broke? Why I am Bruce Almighty! As President of the TWU I have supreme authority on how the constitution is interpreted. I see. Why is the TWU still paying so many salaries and benefits to people who are no longer on the payroll? This is Unbelievable!

Video Clip from Buzz Hargrove's Victory Party

The CAW Executive did not allow Carol Wall to speak in their caucus meeting at the CLC Convention. She was a long shot with many valid concerns. Why were they afraid to let her speak? I spoke with one witness who saw some of Buzz Hargrove's Clone Soldiers point at a CAW member with their finger in the shape of a gun as a bold threat because he brought Carol Wall to a CAW party in the Hospitality Suit.

Buzz Hargrove's Star Henchman threatened Willie Lambert's local president that if he didn't rescind his support for Willie in his election against Buzz they would dissolve his local and merge it with 707. Then at the last minute Willie's nominator and seconder backed out because of pressure from the Clone Soldiers. Can politics get any dirtier than that? Willie Lambert was a long shot from the work floor. He was a bus driver. The same group that were strong long before CAW and will remain so long after. Congratulations!

President of main union at Telus fired after member complaints

VANCOUVER -- The president of the main union at Telus has been removed from his post after complaints from his own members. Bruce Bell led the Telecommunications Workers Union through a bitter four-month strike last year at Canada's second-largest telecommunications company. But many workers were unhappy with the final settlement reached with Telus in November, saying their concerns over contracting out hadn't been addressed. [Background News Clip] [Background Rally]

"Gentlemen may cry Peace, Peace - but there is no peace. The war has actually begun." Patrick Henry

Darren Entwistle was hired as CEO of TELUS in 2000 to break the B.C. Tel contract. TELUS employees were without a contract ever since Darren Entwistle arrived for five years until he selectively locked them out. Before the lockout Darren Entwistle made $6.5 million that year. After breaking the B.C. Tel contract and exporting all those B.C. jobs out of province, Darren Entwistle received a 100% raise and received $14 million the following year. Shipping all the B.C. jobs to Alberta sets a dangerous precedent. There is nothing to stop them from shipping those jobs to Ontario then finally off shore as originally planned. TELUS' definition of job security is that if you don't take a transfer or demotion out of province you lose your job. Eventually all the TELUS jobs in Canada will be lost as will the Canadian economy as other corporate giants follow their precedent. When a company is making record profits, there is no need other than greed to downsize and export Canadian jobs.

That’s not our system. Our system’s a democracy. I’ve read the US constitution. The word shareholder does not appear once in that document. I’ve seen the word people. Of, by and for the people. I’ve seen that but not the word shareholder.

Shareholder. Profit. 'A company should be able to do whatever it can to make a profit. You can’t stop a company from making a profit.'

Yes we can. We have a democracy. We can do whatever we want. We can pass whatever law we want. As long as it fits into that constitution we can pass whatever law we want. We do it all the time.

If it’s just about profit… if it’s just about making profits, well why doesn’t General Motors sell crack? They could make a huge profit if they sold crack." Michael Moore

michaelmoore.jpg (19750 bytes)

The problem is not profit. A company does have to make a profit. The problem is greed. Downsizing and exporting jobs when a company is making record profits just so the few at the top can make obscene amounts of money and the shareholders continue to make a quick buck while the employees and the economy get turfed. That is the problem. Downsizing at times of record profits - greed.

Canada won't join missile defence plan

OK this is dumb. When North Korea continues launching defiant missile tests why would we not support creating a defense system in response? I remember attending a Refuse the Cruise demonstration when I was a kid but the Cruise Missile was an offensive weapon with Nuclear warhead capabilities. Since cruise missiles have been offensively used since World War II, developing a missile defense system would be much wiser than relying on a military invasion if a country starts launching missiles.

Wrongful Dismissal

Just cause.
If an employee does something, or fails to do something, which is so serious that it affects the root of the employment relationship, the employer can dismiss the employee. A single act of misconduct will result in dismissal in exceptional circumstances. Normally, repeated acts of misconduct will be required. Economic downturn, financial difficulties or lack of work do not constitute just cause.

Reasonable notice or pay in lieu of reasonable notice.
Any employment relationship can be terminated by the employer by providing the employee with either a reasonable amount of advance notice of termination of employment or payment in an amount equal to the wages and benefits the employee would have earned during the notice period.

Minimum Notice Requirements under

the B.C. Employment Standards Act

- one week for service from three to 12 months

- two weeks, for one to three years

- three weeks, for three years' service and one additional week's wages for each additional year of employment, to a maximum of 8 weeks' wages
